Further Notes

During my search many properties caught my attention and my imagination. One in particular appealed so much I have since acquired two adjoining parcels. Like the 33 Vines property this acreage has tremendous character that fits the persona of Prince Edward County to a tee!

The property is 22 acres (maybe I\'ll call it 22 Vines?) of land that is clear and ready for planting. Beside the acreage, on a country road intersection is a hundred-year-old limestone schoolhouse that my grandfather, Gordon Bell, attended. Later, my grandmother Florence Bell, was a teacher in the one room schoolhouse, and my late Aunt Mary Bell-Pierson was a student there in the 1940\'s. Like so many County properties, there is a lot of history around this interesting property, and a lot of good stories to tell.

I hope the Cherry Valley property will provide excellent grapes to blend and compliment the yield from 33 Vines. The soil and terroir is completely different. The limestone shelf is about two feet below the surface of wonderfully rich soil, which should produce fabulous grapes, and the microclimate is different to 33 Vines. Hot, dry summers and long autumns - good for ripening.

I am very happy with the properties I found, and I like to think that many other people will benefit from the \"fruits\" of my long search.
